This is one of the most unusual villages in the region and gets its name from the warm red sandstone from which almost all the houses are built. Figeac
Just a 40-minute drive from Autoire is Figeac, a charming town full of history and character. The old town centre with its narrow streets, medieval houses and cosy squares invites you to stroll and explore. Figeac is known as the birthplace of Jean-François Champollion, the decipherer of hieroglyphics, reflected in the impressive Champollion museum. At the Saturday market, the city comes alive with local produce and artisanal specialities. Experience the atmospheric terraces, small boutiques and beautiful walks along the river Célé. Lac du Tolerme
This Toler Lake is also highly recommended, especially on hot days. A true oasis of calm, located in the heart of the forests by Ségala. Easy to reach from Saint Céré, about a 20-minute drive away. The ideal place to cool off. No hordes of tourists.
Water sports, hiking, bicycles, picnic and swimming, in exceptional natural surroundings. Around the lake you can play frisbee golf.
Canoeing on the Dordogne
One of the best ways to discover the area is by canoe on the Dordogne River. As you calmly paddle along the water, you will see picturesque villages, castles on high cliffs and green hills glide past you on the way. Along the way, you can stop at a beach for a picnic or a refreshing dip. The river is calm and therefore suitable for families with children, but also offers longer routes for the sporty canoeist. Scattered along the Dordogne you will find several starting points and rental companies, so you can always choose a tour that suits your pace. A day canoeing combines relaxation, nature and adventure in one.
